Chapter Two
A weekend at a spa couldnât have put Renee more at ease. Her body felt loose and rubbery as she lounged at the table in the club with Jessie and Adrian. And sheâd only had the one glass of wine before they went out. Her relaxation stemmed directly from the big O. Sheâd been blind to how badly sheâd needed that. Of course she could have pleasured herself, but being the object of desire to a hunk like Adrian really did the trick.
Live music played in the background. Because the volume wasnât mind-shatteringly loud, Renee could hear Jessie and Adrian pretty well. So far, she liked the club. The band performed a snappy mix of originals and covers. Right then, they were in the middle of âTubthumpingâ by Chumbawamba. The scent of various body sprays hung in the air. The AC fought down the sultry heat to just the right ambience. There were plenty of customers, but not so many she couldnât get to the bar and order a drink. The tangy margarita tasted perfect. The whole night felt perfect.
Jessie was laughing hard and patting the table. âYou thought Adrian was my son Christopher?â
âIt made sense at first, considering his age.â She nodded, grinning and chuckling along.
âNo wonder you turned beet red. Iâm so sorry. It didnât evenâ¦cross my mind that you havenât seen Christopher for about seven years. I guess I would have thought the same thing.â That made her cackle even more, choking out all of her breath.
Adrian looked off innocently as if he wasnât hearing any of this. He was so cute. He sat on the other side of Jessie, which Renee interpreted as Jessieâs subtle way of ensuring some distance. That was more than okay with Renee. Yeah, as much as she would gladly slip off for a tryst with him, she certainly didnât want to come remotely close to hurting Jessie. Not after such a kind gesture. Maybe he and Jessie would knock one off later for old timeâs sake.
Renee bumped Jessie lightly in the ribs. âIâm glad you find it so funny. I was actually feeling guilty for lusting after your son. Thatâs why I nearly fell apart with relief when you told me he was your ex-boyfriend.â
Adrian couldnât hold back his guffaw. And Renee couldnât help but damn near cry from laughing as well. They settled out of the uproar and Renee asked, âDoes Christopherâ¦?â She pegged her finger between both of them.
âOh, no.â Jessie said. âGod, no. I wasnât ashamed of Adrian or anything, butâ¦they know each other. I just thought it would be kind of awkward for him. I donât ask Christopher who heâs seeing soâ¦itâs only fair that I keep my dates private.â
âGood policy,â Renee said.
The band punched the ending of the song and the vocalist thanked the crowd with a promise to be back in fifteen.
Adrian picked up Jessieâs glass and held it up to the light for inspection. âLooks like youâre ready.â
Jessie panned to Renee as if she were sharing a private joke with an audience of a stage production.
